About the Position

As our HR Consultant Assistant 1 you will be the first point-of-contact for the Human Resources department. You will have an opportunity to make a positive impact on the Western employee experience through assisting employees with their new hire paperwork, handling initial information inquires, coordinating new employee orientation, and other administrative support responsibilities.

In this position, you will also apply specialized knowledge and use independent judgment in resolving technical and paraprofessional problems and interpreting and applying human resource rules, policies, regulations, or procedures. This is a great opportunity to work with a range of human resource disciplines as you will be performing HR related paraprofessional and technical duties in support to our various HR units.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four years of professional office experience or equivalent education/experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong customer service skills, including demonstrated ability to work with all levels of the organization and to apply appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong organization skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated commitment to support a workplace culture in which diversity is honored, respected, and celebrated

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a Human Resources environment
  • Experience using Ellucian Banner or comparable HRIS

 

Salary New hires typically start at $2864/month including an excellent benefits package
Bargaining Unit This position is part of bargaining unit A and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with Washington Federation of State Employees.
