About the Department

The AS Bookstore’s mission is to serve as an educational resource for campus, integrating with the academic community to ensure the availability of materials necessary for development and to provide merchandise to enrich the sense of campus community. The Western AS Bookstore operates in a partnership with the Associated Students of Western Washington University for the benefit of all students. In doing so the store operates in an economically responsible manner keeping price on required materials as low as possible.

About the Position

As the Bookstore Fiscal Analyst 4, you provide oversight for fiscal processes and operations of the store, perform fiscal analysis, research, forecasting, accounting, supervisory, and budget-related work. You will also ensure adherence to applicable laws, policies and standards. In this position, you provide management with appropriate fiscal reports, analysis, and recommendation to support store and departmental operations and decision-making. Additionally, you manage the accounting department, performing complex functions within the point of sale/inventory retail (currently Prism) and university finance (currently Banner) systems, ensuring efficiency of operations, accuracy of data and effective internal controls. This position assists the General Manager in development of the annual budget, monitors and makes projections to fiscal year end. You will also be the primary liaison with auditors, ensuring accurate financial statements and annual reports.

This position’s work schedule is typically 8:00am -5:00pm Monday through Friday, with additional required evening and weekend hours at the beginning of each term and for special events.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree which includes 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing or budgeting (Experience may substitute for degree, but not for credit hours)
  • Three to four years relevant experience in accounting or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to perform analysis of complex financial data and/or reports
  • Experience with the Banner Financial System or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to perform work with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office products such as Word, Outlook, Excel, and other work related software.
  • Able to perform financial reviews and analysis of fiscal data in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • General knowledge of processing and reviewing the fiscal status, assuring accuracy of expenditures and revenue.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues in a positive and professional manner with shared goals.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diversity issues, including working with individuals from a wide array of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize responsibilities
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills & methods
  • Effective supervisory skills and abilities in leading/training staff in fiscal and procedural matters
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player with a wide variety of constituents in a busy and challenging work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to perform work accurately with excellent attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 2 years retail accounting experience
  • Experience with computerized point of sale inventory management accounting program.
  • Knowledge of accepted accounting, business & retailing principles and practices and internal control methods
Salary Salary Range 58: $58,260 - $76,416, including an excellent benefits package
Bargaining Unit This position is part of bargaining unit D and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with Public School Employees (PSE) of WWU.
