About the Position Under normal daily operations, this position follows recognized procedures and techniques to safely perform corrective maintenance duties repairing, replacing and/or installing in the carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical trades along with a variety of skilled work for preventive maintenance and repairs. On the weekends this Position will be responsible for preventive maintenance and responding to emergent needs in both Auxiliary and Academic Buildings. Additionally, under the supervision of the Auxiliary Maintenance Supervisor, works alongside the Kitchen Maintenance Mechanic to ensure the efficient operation, general maintenance, preventive maintenance, service, and repair of commercial kitchen appliances, refrigeration and equipment.

Following a six-month probationary and training period with a 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monday through Friday Shift, this position will work a 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM shift consisting of Weekends plus three consecutive days between Monday and Friday with two consecutive days off between Monday and Friday. Additionally, this position must be available for after hour call outs for emergency response.

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Four years of journey-level experience in a skilled mechanical trade to include one or all of the following trades, mechanic, plumber, electrician or HVAC technician, all in a commercial, institutional or industrial environment
  • Read and understand written information and instructions. Communicate clearly using written, graphic, and verbal means
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and use hand and power tools safely as required for the trade
  • Ability to read and understand written information and instructions
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and written
  • Ability to maintain and use hand and power tools safely as required for the trade
  • Experience working in sensitive situations such as: operational offices, classrooms, dorm rooms, rest rooms, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to starting work in order to drive a State owned vehicle for travel to work locations
  • Physically perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to perform daily work tasks independently under limited supervision
  • Possess technical accuracy and record keeping skills
  • Ability to work with computer hardware and software required to track work orders and record time worked
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a friendly and cooperative manner with students, staff, and faculty at all levels of the organization and in contacts with the public
  • Ability to manage time well and work under pressure situations with tight schedules and deadlines to complete projects

Preferred Qualifications
  • Residential and Commercial building maintenance experience
  • Proficient in the use of computers including skills with Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of commercial, institutional or industrial facilities, grounds and utilities for each of the following skilled trades:
    • Mechanical
    • Plumbing
    • Electrical
    • Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC)
  • A strong knowledge of applicable Washington Administrative Code (WAC) regulations and local building and plumbing codes
  • A strong knowledge of Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) rules and regulations, standard job safety rules, proper use of a face respirator
  • Willing to certify in asbestos abatement.
Salary New hires typically begin at $4,286/month
Bargaining Unit This position is part of bargaining unit B and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with Washington Federation of State Employees
