Western Washington University built Cyber Range Poulsbo at the WWU Center at Olympic College Poulsbo to serve as an educational resource for the state of Washington. Cyber Range Poulsbo is one of only nine educational ranges in the nation and supports students in cybersecurity programs in schools and organizations throughout the state.

About the Position As the Cyber Range Academic Liaison you will be responsible for coordinating the development, scheduling, and management of Cyber Range exercises with instructors of classes using the Cyber Range, and for assisting instructors in incorporating range activities into their curriculum. The Cyber Range Academic Liaison reports to the Cyber Range Master.

The Cyber Range Liaison supports cybersecurity programs at WWU in Bellingham and Poulsbo as well as programs at colleges and universities, and K-12 cyber education efforts throughout the State of Washington. 

Typical duties include:

  • Coordinate with instructors and others, from WWU and other schools, on the development of laboratory exercises and other academic exercises supported on the Cyber Range and on how to incorporate those and other range exercises into courses, programs, and activities.
  • Travel to remote locations to provide assistance and instruction to instructors when needed.
  • Host activities which are contained within the range but used from an external point.
  • Work with participating colleges, universities, schools, and other users to develop and maintain relationships that establish and assist with instructional needs and support.
  • Design exercises and projects for the Cyber Range.
  • Guide others who will be designing exercises and projects by providing input on the capabilities of the range, as well as recommendations as to how to develop or structure the exercise or project and how to deploy the Range.
  •  Supervise students conducting research and class projects on the Cyber Range.
  • Teach cybersecurity concepts as a part of classes as a guest speaker or for special events.
  • Ensure the cyber range is configured to support exercises as needed. Plan for capacity requirements, coordinate scheduling for Range users, and perform system administration tasks to support the Cyber Range.
Required Qualifications
  • BS in Cyber Security, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Three years work experience utilizing IT technical skills
  • Demonstrated technical skills developing in a cloud environment.
  • Experience developing and delivering curriculum especially related to technical lab exercises.
  • Demonstrated ability to create technical documentation.
  • Experience in the area of Cybersecurity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to travel to partner locations and work with instructors.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or Ph.D. in Cyber Security, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience teaching in higher education.
  • Experience and reputation as a public speaker.
  • Extensive experience in Cyber Security.
  • Extensive experience in Cloud operations.

Salary Starting salary range is $68,438- $76,042, commensurate with experience; includes an excellent benefits package.
