About the Position

The Graduate School at Western Washington University seeks a collaborative Communications Consultant to assist with recruiting talented and diverse graduate students to our more than forty graduate programs at both the Master’s and Clinical Doctorate levels. Working directly with program faculty and staff, the position will play a central role in producing communications and digital content supporting the recruitment of prospective graduate students and providing prospective students relevant information regarding the admissions and applications process.

Typical duties include: 

  • Work with academic departments to gather content such as photos, student testimonials and program descriptions to be used online and in various communications 
  • Develop and maintain program pages on Graduate School website (revise and create content with a recruitment focus 
  • Coordinate the Graduate School's participation in marketing/recruitment email campaigns.
  • Collaborate with Graduate School, Outreach and Continuing Education, University Communications and Enrollment Management staff and leadership. 
  • Coordinate social media strategies targeting key constituents, including producing regular content 
  • Research and identify target marketing venues, assess effectiveness of marketing and recruitment activities. 
  • Collect and evaluate feedback and data to inform recruitment materials and campaigns. 
  • Contribute to the development of a graduate marketing and recruitment strategy 
  • Participate on university-wide marketing committee.
  • Represent the Graduate School at graduate school and career fairs, online and in person, at Western and selected other sites with adequate training, and availability. 
  • Advise prospective students on the application and admission process
  • Assist with admissions processing during high volume periods
  • Coordinate the Graduate School Give Day campaign

This is a long-term, part-time, temporary position.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or a related field.
  • Minimum one year of experience in developing marketing, promotional or recruitment materials with experience utilizing multiple tools to reach target market.
  • Proactive, engaging skills as a communicator and excellent written communication skills.
  • Experience with a Content Management System such as Drupal or Wordpress
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and proven ability to learn and use new technology, including social media and university systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in student recruitment in a higher education or similar environment
  • Experience with CollegeNet or similar CRM tool.
  • Experience with the Adobe creative suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of graduate admissions practices and principles with an understanding of customer service perspectives and needs.
Salary The starting pay for this position is $21.27 per hour.
Bargaining Unit This position is provisionally part of bargaining unit PT and covered by the collective bargaining agreement with Public School Employees of WWU.
