About the Position

The Outreach and Continuing Education Media Technician Senior provides basic technology and media support to faculty, staff, and students in the delivery of academic programs and operational functions at sites supported by Outreach and Continuing Education, including Bellingham and other locations. This position may be responsible for providing basic technology support for Western’s programs, supporting instructors and staff in the delivery of interactive classes and meetings, and communicating issues with supervisor(s) and partner institutions.

General Technology Services and Support

Core functions may vary from site-to-site:

  • Support and respond to Western faculty, staff, and students with general technology-related questions;
  • Provide support for staff, faculty, and academic programs in scheduling media-enhanced classrooms and services;
  • Support Interactive Television (ITV) classes for Western programs and serves as a liaison between Western, Peninsula College, Olympic College, and Washington State University; to conduct quarterly testing and reporting of issues;
  • Provide basic Microsoft Office-related (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) support;
  • Provide basic hardware and software support, within position scope;
  • Enter questions and solutions into OCE Technology Services helpdesk;
  • Coordinate efforts to test technology and media-based services for Western programs, faculty, and staff;
  • Provide basic-level support for technical equipment (set-up, activation, etc.);
  • Provide in-class support, if services not available from a partner campus/institution;
  • Refer questions, as appropriate, to appropriate help desk;

General Office Duties

  • Answer inquiries pertaining to position responsibilities via e-mail and phone;
  • Operate general office equipment in support of programs and operations;
  • Coordinate, in a timely manner, with Extended Education on all matters of program operations and administration;
  • Recognized ability to follow established office policies and procedures;
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

 

 

 

Required Qualifications
  • High-school diploma or equivalent
  • 6 months of related experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of educational technology and media
  • Demonstrated proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work across sites and locations
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Washington State driver’s license or ability to travel from location to location
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree
  • Additional education or experience related to position functions
  • Earned certifications pertaining to job functions (e.g. Microsoft Office Specialist)
  • Demonstrated experience supporting media in an educational setting
  • Demonstrated experience supporting technology-related issues in an educational setting
  • Demonstrated experience supporting instructors in delivering interactive television (ITV) content
  • Experience with databases (e.g. Microsoft Access)
Salary Positions typically start at $15.98/hour.
Bargaining Unit This position is provisionally part of bargaining unit PT and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with Public School Employees of WWU.
