About the Position

The Title IX Director serves in a full-time, 12-month capacity and reports directly to the President of the University. The Title IX Director has primary responsibility for coordinating and implementing the University’s Title IX compliance efforts and serves as the Title IX Coordinator. This position works closely with the President, Provost, Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services, Vice Provost for Equal Opportunity and Employment Diversity, Director of Internal Audit, and other administrative leaders to provide an open, diverse and inclusive learning, living and working environment for all members of the Western community at all locations. The Title IX Director leads and proactively influences University-wide Title IX planning, monitoring, reporting, grievance procedures, education, prevention and training efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree 
  • At least 5 years of progressive professional experience with responsibility and demonstrated experience in complaint investigation and resolution and policy administration
  • At least two years’ experience in effectively supervising staff in a professional setting
  • Ability to provide effective and appropriate advice and expertise to all levels within the University community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply, in a practical manner appropriate to a higher educational environment, including federal and state laws, such as Title IX, relevant regulations and guidance from the Department of Education and the Office of Civil Rights; federal and state regulations and guidance, such as the Clery Act, VAWA, and FERPA.
  • Working knowledge of higher education climate and institutional policies and issues involving student affairs
  • Advanced analytical, evaluative, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to provide empathetic listening to a diverse audience
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and supervise investigations with a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approach
  • Persuasive communication skills both verbally and in writing to a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to effectively summarize information while emphasizing education and training for students, faculty and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent and mature judgment, maintain objectivity and safeguard confidential and sensitive information
  • Excellent project and time management skills, ensuring that multiple hard deadlines, project deadlines, meetings, and other work duties are completed in a timely manner without sacrificing customer support and a client-centered approach
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience promoting equity and inclusion in a professional setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD or a JD preferred
  • Administrative experience in higher education is highly desirable
  • Experience in the successful development and implementation of educational and training programs with strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of/experience in Title IX regulations as they apply to NCAA rules, policies, and practices regarding gender equity in intercollegiate athletics
  • Fluency in a second language

Salary

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
