About the Position

In this job specializes in print, graphics, advertising and visual awareness of brand. The person in this position designs various graphic projects based on audience and client type for print and digital. The person also creates style guides, manages deadlines via basecamp software, coordinates with vendors on ad space when necessary, and coordinates projects with design students.


Creates and designs graphic design, illustration, and production for a variety of promotional and curriculum materials including, but not limited to: brochures, posters, flyers, postcards, bulletins, newspaper ads, E-cards, transit ads, textbooks, catalogs, banners, conference programs, digital signs, social media graphics, and motion graphics.

Tasks include:

  • Review work for accuracy and quality
  • Follow university policies and guidelines regarding branding
  • Select and edit of photos for publication using Adobe software
  • Prepare camera-ready art and electronic files for WWU’s Copy Services and external publications/vendors
  • Create style guides for clients
  • Assist in design of digital media: social media ads, email graphics, web banners, web graphics, and digitals signs
  • Create graphics for promotional materials
  • Manage logo use and branding for Extended Education materials adhering to WWU branding guidelines
  • Develop concept mockups to visualize new ideas in context
  • Present design work to marketing manager and communications consultants for review and approval
  • Support marketing team by bringing big ideas to life through ideation and creation of design
  • Other duties as assigned

Coordinate with student employees (graphic artists)

  • Assign and schedule graphic design duties to students
  • Review and edit student design work as needed
  • Make sure students are adhering to WWU branding

Coordinate with vendors on ad space and manage ad deadlines:

  • In coordination with the Marketing Manager and Communications Consultants, reach out to vendors for media kits (ad specs) and reserve space for ads
  • Maintain professional relationship with media contacts and support Extended Ed marketing team with ad campaigns
  • Manage ad deadlines and submit ads in a timely manner to vendors
  • Additional duties as assigned


Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in graphic design, fine art or related field, or two years of related experience/education
  • Demonstrated proficiency in full Adobe Creative Suite such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and complete work under strict deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team in a fast-paced environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making with limited time and information
  • Experience creating marketing collateral with current graphic design standards;
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook) and working knowledge of the Macintosh computer operating system
  • Demonstrated development and implementation of innovative and creative graphic design projects and ideas


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual art or related field or equivalent experience/education

  • Familiarity with marketing higher education programs
  • Digital portfolio with emphasis on marketing collateral (print and digital)
  • Expert level experience with the current Adobe Creative Cloud and other software relevant to area of expertise
  • Demonstrated experience managing creative processes through external ad agencies, internal teams and freelancers
  • Experience in motion graphic design for multi-media
  • Familiar with pre-press print production principles, including: color management, file formats, and image conversion requirements for offset lithography, digital printing, and products
  • Experience in Drupal and WordPress for edits and design.
Salary Salary starts at $17.84/hour
