About the Position OVERVIEW:

The Custodian Supervisor 4 (C4) position is an integral part of our management team and is responsible for supervising their assigned area team.

The Supervisor assigns and schedules work for their team; checks work of their team for quality and completeness; performs and documents routine inspections; ensures staffing within their assigned areas is adequate to support ongoing requirements; and performs custodian duties as needed.

The Supervisor is also responsible for various administrative duties, including conducting training; verifying, approving, and tracking timesheets and leave requests; conducting training; documenting disciplinary action; participating in interviews; and recommending selection of staff. The Supervisor is responsible to ensure that University policies and procedures are followed.

The Supervisor ensures that unit morale / cohesiveness are properly supported and provides cultural competency for their team, educating the team to respect and appreciate cultural differences in the work environment.

This position works primarily with the Custodial Manager but also interfaces with the Associate Director UR Facilities and other designated management team members to review and maintain applicable departmental supplies, equipment, and budgets as appropriate. This position works in the residential community and is frequently around residents, visitors and summer conference guests.

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of experience supervising more than two (2) employees which includes a flexible management and team leadership style.
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience, including experience creating a positive working environment while ensuring staff accountability, providing leadership and effective problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage time, establish work priorities, and work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Demonstrable ability to understand/convey written & verbal instructions and effectively interact & communicate in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and other basic computing applications to manage and format data and manage page layout functions.
  • Ability to analyze data and use the data to develop action plans and create management reports using established templates.
  • Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least three (3) or more years of hands-on work experience performing team cleaning in either a college, hospital, hotel environment, K-12 educational environment or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) or more years of work experience directly supervising a sizable team in a large-scale operation.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and other basic computing applications to create formulas
  • Experience using proprietary software tools (SmartSheet, AIM, Banner, StarRez).
Salary New hires typically start at $2,700/month including an excellent benefits package
Bargaining Unit This position is part of bargaining unit E and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with the Washington Federation of State Employees.
