About the Position

Under the direction of the Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) or Physician, as our Registered Nurse 2, you will provide safe therapeutic care for a diverse population of university-age patients in a university setting.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Direct Patient Care
    • Observe and record the current and patient history of physical and mental conditions - noticing physical and/or behavioral changes and the effects of drugs and incidents
    • Reconcile medications and prepare the patient and electronic health record for the visit
    • Administer medications and vaccinations
    • Collect patient specimens
    • Start and maintain IVs
    • Triage by taking a history and doing a physical assessment to determine a patient's need for medical care, and treat based on nursing protocols and procedures
    • Direct patients in emergency and complex situations
  • Assist Providers
    • Assist the physician or ARNP with physical examinations, techniques, and procedures, and other aspects of patient care
  • Policy/Procedure Maintenance
    • Develop, maintain and apply appropriate policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice for performance of clinical duties and evaluating own practice in relation to these
  • Miscellaneous Duties as Assigned
    • Wash and sterilize instruments, laundry, stock exam rooms, maintain laboratory equipment, perform maintenance testing and controls on test supplies used and other tasks assigned by supervisor
  • Teaching/Communicating
    • Use multiple forms of communication to:
      • Care for and teach/counsel patients
      • Provide for the safety, comfort and protection of patients
      • Encourage healthy mental attitudes and new behavior patterns
      • Respond to patient's needs
    • Provide triage of incoming patient communication
Required Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with BS degree in Nursing or related field
  • Eligible for Washington State RN License at the time of hire
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • 2 years of RN experience providing healthcare in an ambulatory/outpatient clinic, college/school and/or urgent care clinic setting
  • Experience working with diverse and/or minority populations
  • BCLS Certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Telephone or in-person triage nursing experience
  • Experience administering immunizations
  • Experience drawing blood
  • Experience performing lab tests in a CLIA-waived lab setting (rapid tests, dipstick tests; as well as preparing specimens for submission to an outside lab)
  • College health nursing experience
  • Experience providing mental healthcare
  • Competency in IV start and maintenance
  • Experience with Practice Partner electronic medical record
Salary New hires typically start at $5343/month depending on years of experience; includes an excellent benefits package
Bargaining Unit This position is part of bargaining unit PTE and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with the Public School Employees of WWU.
