About the Position

As our Information Technology Specialist 3 (ITS 3) you will report to the Director of Technology & Discovery Services, and will be situated in a division within Western Libraries that is responsible for the optimal access to and use of different technologies within the Libraries' environment.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, support, and maintenance of Western's search interface to library resources, a shared discovery layer called OneSearch, and will also service as SharePoint specialist, responsible for co-developing, maintaining, and providing training and support for the Libraries SharePoint site.

OneSearch is an Ex Libris product called Primo, and is shared with 39 academic institutions across Washington, Idaho and Oregon through the Orbis Cascade Alliance.  You will work with groups and individuals across the Orbis Cascade Alliance, and across divisions of the Western Libraries.

The Technology & Discovery Services division collaborates with Western Libraries personnel and other campus entities to implement a suite of the necessary library technology services, web presences and system applications, and programs for the Western community.  Through the provision of an accessible, data-driven, and valuable online teaching, research, and learning environment, Technology & Discovery Services augments the University's ability to contribute to and participate in the scholarly landscape at Western and beyond.

Required Qualifications
  • Two years of library technical experience or closely related activity, or satisfactory completion of relevant course work OR equivalent education/experience
  • Advanced computer skills; knowledge of programming, scripting, and markup languages such as Perl, XML, HTML5, Javascript, CSS
  • Experience in systems administration and the development of APIs for said systems
  • Demonstrated experience providing or supporting instruction, trainings, or consultations to clients / customers
  • Broad general education and a good command of written English
  • Demonstrated ability to perform routine problem analysis and conduct problem solving (i.e., troubleshooting)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Systems Certification from Ex Libris, Inc.
  • Knowledge of and substantial experience using Microsoft Suite products as a content management system and/or a document management solution
  • Familiarity with user experience principles and practices
  • Experience working with individuals with diverse identities in higher education settings
Salary New hires typically begin at $4487/month including an excellent benefits package
Bargaining Unit This position is part of bargaining unit PTE and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with the Public School Employees of WWU.
