About the Position

The Department of Sociology at Western Washington University is hiring a temporary academic department manager. The temporary department manager will provide administrative assistance and support to the Department of Sociology. The temporary department manager will coordinate operation and management of the department, including managing financial and budgetary tasks. The temporary department manager will supervise student workers and perform a variety of support tasks for staff, students, and faculty. The position could begin as soon as October 29, 2018. The department would like to start by hiring someone for 20 hours per week, with the possibility that number of weekly hours could be adjusted based on the needs that emerge. This position is approximately a 2 month temporary appointment.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Two years of related full-time administrative and/or supervisory experience
  • Proficiency with Banner
  • Proficiency with MS Office systems such as Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Possession of strong, positive and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and general public from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately, independently and under pressure while managing time effectively and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate as part of a team
