About the University Western Washington University, with over 15,000 students in seven colleges and the graduate school, is nationally recognized for its educational programs, students and faculty. About the Department

The Department of History at Western Washington University consists of twenty tenured or tenure-track faculty whose courses serve a very active history major and make significant contributions to the university's general education curriculum.  History courses cover nearly every historical era and much of the globe.  The department encourages its faculty to participate in interdisciplinary programs such as East Asian Studies; Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; International Studies; Latin American Studies; Canadian-American Studies; and the Honors program.  Faculty in the department provide high quality courses that prepare majors and non-majors will skills in research, analysis and writing.  The department likewise houses a small M.A. program in History and a nationally recognized M.A. program in Archives and Records Management.

About the Position

The Department, the College, and the University value teaching and we expect the temporary lecturer to be an exemplary teacher; to be current in their discipline; to engage students actively in their own learning, including discussion, writing, and analysis; and to maintain high standards regarding course content and evaluation of student work.  We expect the successful candidate to provide students with feedback on their course work and examinations, and to be available to students through regularly scheduled office hours in keeping with department policy.

The successful candidate may expect to teach survey courses and/or lower/upper division courses according to departmental needs.

Required Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in an appropriate field
  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching
  • Demonstrated potential to work effectively with a diverse campus community, including a commitment to cultivating equitable learning environments for all students
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or ABD in an appropriate field
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience

Salary

 Commensurate with experience and qualifications
