About the Position

During the design and construction phase of University Public Works projects, as our Construction Project Coordinator, you will work closely with the University project manager and support, manage, oversee, monitor and hold accountable through the implementation of multiple measures the construction team. This team includes the Contractors, Design Consultants. Special Inspectors and, Facilities Management crews. You will also act as liaison with University faculty, staff and project stakeholders. The result of these actions and responsibilities teamed with those of responsible charge is the presentation of new and / or renovated and upgraded facilities housing and supporting the Western Washington University Education mission.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing construction project plans and specifications for constructability/adherence to University standards/Value Engineering (VE) opportunities
  • Implementing, promoting, and enforcing measures to ensure contractor accountability and adherence to project contract
  • Monitoring and initiating construction project documentation and communications
  • Reviewing and providing comments and recommendations for the effective use of Critical Path Method for project schedule management
  • Managing project utility shut downs
  • Attending, monitoring, organizing and promoting effectiveness of project construction meetings
  • Aiding and coordinating project closeout with Project Manager; manage project transition and handover to Facilities Management
Required Qualifications
  • 5 years of  experience in construction project management and /or construction superintendent position
  • Ability to manage project schedules and maintain/meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Ability to serve as an effective member or leader of a team
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with design consultants, contractors and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated effective professional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a professional and productive manner with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to shifting demands and time lines
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively translate, simplify and communicate technical information to stakeholders
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering with Construction Project Management emphasis
  • Working, hands on experience, with Excel, Outlook, Word, CPM scheduling programs
  • Experience with e-Builder
  • Experience developing and implementing Construction Project Quality Control program
  • Building Commissioning experience
  • LEED accreditation
  • Enjoy the technical complexities and project team communications of complex building construction projects
  • Experience working in a higher education environment
  • Understanding of facility maintenance/construction practices and terminology
Salary New hires typically start at $5603/month including an excellent benefits package.
Bargaining Unit This position is part of bargaining unit PTE and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with the Public School Employees of WWU.
