About the Position

As our Instruction and Classroom Support Technician (ICST) you will directly support the academic mission of the Engineering & Design Department by having responsibility for monitoring department labs during evening hours and managing, maintaining, and supervising the Industrial Design (ID) laboratories for teaching and research purposes, including developing and implementing lab policies, safety procedures, and lab manuals for all ID lab courses and lab equipment, performing routine and emergency maintenance on lab equipment, coordinating the installation of new laboratory equipment, and supervising student laboratory assistants and work study students.  You will also be responsible for supporting other technicians and laboratories in the department as needed.

When classes are in session, working hours at Noon to 9:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with major study in a basic or applied science OR an equivalent combination of training, formal education and/or research, training, or work experience
  • Ability to effectively supervise and train students and student staff
  • Experience with basic departmental shop and woodworking tools
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with modern woodworking tools and processes
  • Experience working in a higher education laboratory setting
  • Experience teaching or as a teaching assistant
  • Experience with chemical inventory, management, or disposal
  • Experience with Industrial Design model making and prototyping
Salary New hires typically start at $3420/month including an excellent benefits package
Bargaining Unit This position is part of bargaining unit PTE and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with the Public School Employees of WWU
