About the Department

The CBE is considered a leadership unit within WWU.  It is AACSB accredited and has over 65 full-time faculty members.  The CBE grants MBA and MPAC degrees as well as Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business Administration, Accounting, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management, Business and Sustainability, and Economics.  The Management Department, which will be the departmental home of the individual hired for this position, oversees undergraduate concentrations in general business, management, international business, and the interdisciplinary business and sustainability major.

The Management Department is a small, collaborative group of teacher-scholar faculty who have a passion for undergraduate education and who pride themselves on innovative, impactful, student-centered teaching.  We are seeking a colleague who has similar professional aspirations and passions, and who is eager to positively contribute to the college, department, and general business program.  That said, we are protective of junior faculty and are committed to providing strong support for individuals on the path to tenure.

This position will teach primarily in the general business program, and teaching responsibilities may include face-to-face courses in management, human resource management, or operations management.  Additionally, there may be opportunities to teach simultaneously to multiple locations using interactive television and to develop online courses.  Although there are existing models for the courses in our programs, the individual who is hired will have freedom to determine how these courses are designed and taught going forward. The person will also work collaboratively with the other management faculty to regularly refine course content.  CBE faculty members typically teach six in-load courses per year (two per 10-week quarter in fall, winter, and spring).  They also maintain active research streams and publish work in reputable peer-reviewed journals.

About the Position

The Management Department within the College of Business and Economics (CBE) at Western Washington University (WWU) invites candidates to apply for a full-time, tenure-track position in Management or related field (open rank) beginning in September 2019 at WWU's extension site located in Poulsbo, WA.  The CBE and the Department support WWU's mission to bring together individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives in an inclusive, student-centered university that develops the potential of learners and the well-being of communities.  We encourage applications from women, people of color, people with disabilities, veterans, LGBTQ people, and others from underrepresented backgrounds and with diverse experience interested in this faculty position.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate courses in management, human resource management and/or operations management
  •  Conduct and publish impactful research in peer-reviewed journals on topics relevant to management, human resource management, and/or operations management
  • Work collaboratively on scholarly and curricular projects with other faculty within the Department, CBE, and WWU on the Peninsulas
  • Perform a proportionate share of department, college, university, and professional service (note that service expectations are modest for untenured tenure-track faculty)

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or ABD or equivalent in management, human resource management, operations management or related field; ABD candidates must have degree completed by June 2020
  • Demonstrated passion for and ability to effectively teach, advise, and mentor diverse undergraduate business students
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to teach a variety of undergraduate management, human resource management, and/or operations management courses
  • Demonstrated competence in and commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds
  • Demonstrated potential for and/or record of conducting and publishing impactful research on topics relevant to management, human resource management, and/or operations management (scholarship record is commensurate with years since completion of the terminal degree)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse colleagues

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability and willingness to occasionally create and teach new management, human resource management, and/or operations management courses
  • Post-PhD undergraduate teaching experience and/or experience developing and teaching (as the primary instructor) undergraduate management, human resource management, and/or operations management courses
  • Relevant non-academic professional experience, particularly experience related to management, human resource management, and/or operations management
  • A research program that presents opportunities for collaboration with other faculty in the Management Department, CBE, and/or elsewhere within WWU
