About the University

About the Department

The Mathematics Department has about 25 tenured and 25 contract faculty whose research interests extend over a wide range of areas of applied, computational and pure mathematics, statistics and mathematics education. Besides our primary focus on undergraduate instruction, we offer a Master's program in mathematics with about 20 students. Excellence in both teaching and scholarship are hallmarks of the department. The Mathematics Department supports Western’s mission to bring together individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives in an inclusive, student-centered university that develops the potential of learners and the well-being of communities. About the Position

Applicants with expertise in the general area of geometry and/or topology, including for example differential geometry and algebraic topology, are invited to apply for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall 2019.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in mathematics by June 2020
  • Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching
  • Evidence of productive scholarship in the general area of geometry and/or topology
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a very diverse faculty and student population

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of effective mentoring of students, such as involving undergraduates in capstone projects and/or research activities
